Kinderhook

Kinderhook

Town in southeastern New York State, 32 km/20 mi southeast of Albany; population (1990) 8,100. It is a residential and agricultural centre. Lindenwald, the home of US president Martin Van Buren from 1841 to 1862, is a National Historic Site.

Kinderhook was settled by the Dutch in the mid-18th century. It was the birthplace of Van Buren, who is also buried here.
