Kindia

Town in western Guinea, 90 km/55 mi northeast of Conakry; population (1998 est) 149,400. It is the market centre for the surrounding area, trading rice, bananas, pineapples, citrus fruits, and palm oil and kernels. Bauxite is mined nearby at Debili, with an annual output of just over 3 million tonnes.

Kindia is the home of the National School of Agriculture and the Institute of Fruit Research, both founded in 1961, as well as the Pasteur Institute, founded in 1925 for medical research. The town lies on the Conakry-Kankan Railway and has a good road network to other towns.
