King, Charles

King, Charles (Bird) (1785–1862)

US painter. His best-known work, a still-life summation of his career, is The Artist's Dream 1830.

He was born in Newport, Rhode Island. He studied with Benjamin West in London 1805–12, and became friends with Washington Allston and Thomas Sully. He settled in Washington, DC.

King, Charles (1687–1748)

English singer, organist and composer. He was a chorister under Blow at St Paul's Cathedral, where he succeeded his father-in-law Clarke as Almoner and Master of the Children in 1708. He composed church music.
