Philip (died 249 AD)

Roman emperor AD 244–49. An Arabian by birth, he rose to high rank in the Roman army and obtained the throne by assassinating the emperor Gordianus III. Philip and his son were killed near Verona, either in battle against the future emperor Decius, or by Philip's own troops.
