Opera by Antonín Dvořák (libretto by B Guldener), first produced at the Czech Theatre, Prague, in the modern Czech Republic, on 24 November 1874. It was Dvořák's first opera to be produced. In the story, King Matyáš, lost in the forest, talks to Liduška, daughter of charcoal burner Matěj. Young Jeník becomes jealous and embarks on a glorious military career before he is united with her.
