Kings Mountain

City in southwestern North Carolina, 45 km/28 mi west of Charlotte; population (1990 est) 8,800. It manufactures textiles. Kings Mountain National Military Park is 11 km/7 mi to the south, in South Carolina.

Lone ridge crossing the South Carolina–North Carolina border southwest of Gastonia, North Carolina; height 320 m/1,040 ft.

Kings Mountain National Military Park, 24 km/15 mi northeast of Gaffney, South Carolina, was the site of an important defeat of the British on 7 October 1780, said by some to have marked the turning point in the American Revolution.

The Overmountain Victory Trail, along a Revolutionary War route from Abingdon, Virginia, ends here. The park is headquartered in Kings Mountain, North Carolina.
