Kings River

River in south-central California; length 200 km/125 mi. Its waters are drawn off by canals to irrigate the extensive agriculture of the San Jaoquin Valley.

The Middle and South forks of the Kings River flow west from the Sierra Nevada through Kings Canyon National Park, join west of its boundary, and receive the North Fork, then descend southwest into the San Joaquin Valley by way of Pine Flat Reservoir, created by the 134 m/440 ft-high Pine Flat Dam (1954), part of the Central Valley project. The river continues to the southwest, passing east of Sanger and west of Reedley, before disappearing into the Tulare lakebed.
