Kingsville

City and administrative headquarters of Kleberg County, southern Texas, 55 km/34 mi southwest of Corpus Christi; population (2000) 25,600. It is a commercial centre and has some light manufacturing. The economy also depends on the Kingsville Naval Air Station. Dates, olives, citrus fruit, and dairy and beef cattle are produced locally, and there are also natural gas processing and petrochemical plants.

It is the seat of the King Ranch, in which it was established (1903) as a railway stop. Texas A & I University (1925) is here.
