Kinnear, Norman Boyd

Kinnear, Norman Boyd (1882–1957)

Scottish ornithologist. He was curator of the Natural History Museum in Bombay (now Mumbai), India 1907–19, and worked at the British Museum for over 30 years.

Kinnear was born in Edinburgh, and educated at Edinburgh Academy and Trinity College, Glenalmond. He worked as an assistant at the Royal Scottish Museum 1905–07 before taking up his post in India. In 1920 he began his long association with the British Museum, becoming deputy keeper in charge of birds in 1927, keeper of zoology in 1945, and director of the natural history department in 1947. He published a number of papers on ornithology.
