Kiphuth, Robert (John Herman) (1890–1967)

US physical educator. Perhaps the greatest swimming coach in history, Kiphuth retired after 41 years at Yale University with a 528–12 dual meet record and 38 eastern intercollegiate and 14 national championships. He also coached US Olympic swimming teams (1928–48). Kiphuth was born in Tonawanda, New York. He was awarded the Medal of Freedom in 1963.
