Kirbye, George

    0.04 sec.

Kirbye, George (c. 1565-1634)

English composer. He first appeared as the most copious contributor, except John Farmer, to Thomas East's psalter The Whole Book of Psalmes (1592). In 1598 he married Anne Saxye, and he seems to have lived at that time at Rushbrooke near Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, as domestic musician at the residence of Sir Robert Jermyn. In 1597 he dedicated his book of 24 madrigals to Jermyn's daughters. In 1601 he contributed a madrigal to The Triumphes of Oriana.

Works

motets, a hymn; madrigals; pavana for viols.
