Kirklareli

Capital of Kirklareli province in northwest Turkey (European), about 30 km/19 mi from the Bulgarian border, 176 km/110 mi northwest of Istanbul; population (1990) 43,000. It is an agricultural centre, trading in coal, wines, hides, flour, and tobacco.

In 1912, the first battle of the Balkan Wars was fought nearby, between Bulgarian and Turkish forces.
