Kirkpatrick, Jeane Duane Jordan (1926–2006)

US politician and professor of political science. She served as US ambassador to the United Nations 1981–85. Originally a Democrat, she often spoke out against communism and left-wing causes. She joined the Republican Party in 1985.

Born in Duncan, Oklahoma, she graduated from Barnard College and Columbia University. She taught at Georgetown University 1967–81 and helped to form the Coalition for a Democratic Majority in 1972.
