Kirkpatrick, John (1905-1991)

US pianist and scholar. He studied at Princeton and with Nadia Boulanger in Paris, France, and performed works by many modern US composers, in particular Charles Ives. In 1939 he gave the first performance in New York of the Concord Sonata, vital in the wider recognition of the music of Ives; he also made a significant academic contribution in this respect.
