Kirtland

Kirtland

Town in northeastern Ohio, 32 km/20 mi northeast of Cleveland; population (1990) 5,900. It was a Mormon centre in the 1830s; its temple (1836) was constructed by Joseph Smith and his followers. Today it is an affluent residential suburb.

It was settled 1808–09. The Holden Arboretum is to the northeast.
