    0.09 sec.

Kirwan, Richard (1733–1812)

Irish chemist who helped advance the methods of analytical chemistry through his work on the relative densities of saline substances. At first he supported the phlogiston theory of combustion, but later accepted the views of Antoine Lavoisier. Kirwan was also an eminent mineralogist.

Kirwan was born in Galway and studied in France to become a Jesuit priest, but gave this and a subsequent law career up to concentrate on science.
