Kiselevsk

Town in the Kemerovo oblast (region) of the Russian Federation, 58 km/36 mi northwest of Novokuznetsk; population (1996 est) 115,000. It is a major coal-mining centre in the Kuznetsk Basin. Engineering equipment for mining is also produced here. Kiselevsk was founded in the 1920s as a mining settlement, and became a town in 1936.
