Kismaayo

Town and port in southern Somalia on the Indian Ocean coast near the mouth of the Juba River, one of the two permanent rivers in the country; population (2007 est) 256,700. It is the third-largest town in Somalia and was founded by the Sultan of Zanzibar in 1872. Major exports from the port include cattle and bananas. Meat-processing is a major industry in the town.
