Kiss, The

Opera by Bedřich Smetana (libretto by E Krásnohorská, based on a story by K Svetlá), first produced in Prague, in the modern Czech Republic, on 7 November 1876. It tells how Vendulka declines a kiss from the widower Lukaš, for fear of offending the spirit of his dead wife. The pair are later united.
