Kitsap County

County in western Washington, on a peninsula between the Hood Canal and Puget Sound; area 1,018 sq km/393 sq mi; population (1990) 189,700. Port Orchard (population (1990) 5,000) is its capital, Bremerton its largest city. Leading industries include fishing, dairying, and market farming. There is manufacturing in and around Bremerton, and tourism is important.

The county includes Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound and western suburbs of Seattle. The Port Madison and Port Gamble Indian reservations are at the northern tip of the peninsula.
