Kittel, Charles (1916- )

US physicist. A leader in the application of microwave resonance methods to investigations of solid state ferromagnetism, he was also honoured for his improvements in the college physics curriculum. Kittel was a physicist with the US Navy (1940-45), then performed research at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (1945-46) and Bell Telephone Laboratories (1947-50), before becoming a professor at the University of California, Berkeley (1950-79). He was born in New York City.
