Kittl, Johann Friedrich (1806–1868)

Bohemian composer. He was a pupil of Tomašek in Prague, where he gave his first concert, in 1836. In 1843 he succeeded Dionys Weber as director of the Prague Conservatory. His compositions include operas and the Jagdsymphonie.

Works Operas Bianca und Giuseppe, oder Die Franzosen vor Nizza (libretto by Wagner, originally for himself, 1848), Die Waldblume (1852), and Die Bilderstürmer (1854).
