Kitty Hawk

Resort town in northeastern North Carolina, on Bodie Island, between Kitty Hawk Bay, an inlet of Albemarle Sound, and the Atlantic Ocean; population (1990) 1,900. Just southeast is Kill Devil Hills (population (1990) 4,200), where the Wright brothers made the first sustained aeroplane flight on 17 December 1903. The Wright Brothers National Memorial is here.
