Kitty Hawk

Resort town in northeastern North Carolina, on Bodie Island, between Kitty Hawk Bay, an inlet of Albemarle Sound, and the Atlantic Ocean; population (1990) 1,900. Just southeast is Kill Devil Hills (population (1990) 4,200), where the Wright brothers made the first sustained aeroplane flight on 17 December 1903.
