Klagenfurt

Capital of the Austrian province of Carinthia, on a tributary of the River Drava near the Slovenian border; population (2001 est) 91,100. The city has iron, chemical, textile, leather, machinery, and tobacco industries, and hosts an annual trade fair. It has a Renaissance cathedral and several old churches.

Klagenfurt is in a fertile basin, surrounded by mountains, and is near the eastern end of the Wörther See, with its many lidos and resorts.
