Klein, Anne

Klein, Anne (Hannah) (c. 1921– )

US fashion designer. She was known for her sophisticated, practical sportswear for young women and for recognizing the need for coordinated separates, matching blazers, skirts, and slacks. Klein was born in New York City. A student at the Traphagen School of Fashion, she started her career at the age of 15 as a freelance sketcher in a wholesale fashion house. In 1948 she launched her Junior Sophisticates and in 1968 opened Anne Klein & Company. She was elected to the Coty American Fashion Awards Hall of Fame in 1971.
