Klein, Peter (1907-1992)

German tenor. His early career was in Düsseldorf and Zurich, and from 1934 Klein worked in Hamburg and at the Vienna Staatsoper, where he also sang the baritone role of Beckmesser in 1965. He was admired in such character roles as Mozart's Basilio, Monostatos, and Pedrillo, and Wagner's Mime, a role he also performed at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London, until 1960.
