Klengel, Julius (1859-1933)

German cellist and composer. He joined the Leipzig Gewandhaus orchestra at the age of 15, began to travel as a virtuoso in 1875, and in 1881 became leading cellist in the orchestra and professor of cello at the Leipzig Conservatory.

He studied cello with Emil Hegar and composition with Salomon Jadassohn (1831-1902).

Works

four cello concertos, double concertos for violin and cello and two cellos, Hymnus for 12 cellos; Caprice in form of a Chaconne for cello solo; many cello pieces and studies.
