Klimov, Valery (1931– )

Russian violinist. He studied at Odessa and with David Oistrakh in Moscow and made his debut with the Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra in 1957. He won the Tchaikovsky Competition in 1958 and first performed in the UK in 1967, at the Royal Festival Hall, London. He has played concerts all over the world with leading conductors and plays concertos by Schnittke, Hindemith, and Prokofiev, in addition to the standard repertoire.
