Klin

Town in the Moscow oblast (region) of the Russian Federation, 89 km/55 mi northwest of Moscow; population (2001 est) 88,800. Klin was first documented in 1234, and in the 17th century was the patrimony (inheritance) of the Romanov dynasty. It is famous as the site of a house occupied by the composer Pyotr Il'yich (Peter Ilich) Tchaikovsky from 1892–93; this has been preserved as a museum. Klin was occupied by German forces in 1941 and badly damaged.
