Kluane National Park

Wilderness consrevation area in the southwestern corner of the Yukon Territory, bordered on the west and southwest by Alaska and on the south by British Columbia. Established in 1972, it covers 22,000 sq km/8,500 sq mi, and is renowned for its glaciers and icefields, the largest concentration of such features outside polar regions. The park contains Mount Logan, at 5,951 m/19,524 ft the highest point in Canada and the second highest in all of North America.

Kluane, with its alpine meadows, tundra, and forests and its abundant wildlife, was the hunting and fishing ground of many ancient peoples. The mountain chain where Mount Logan is situated is the Saint Elias range, which extends over the US border into Alaska's Wrangell–Saint Elias National Park. The major glaciers here are Steele and Kaskawulsh. The Alaska and Haines highways in the northeast allow travellers ready access to the borders of the park, but it can only be entered by hiking trails. Park headquarters are at Haines Junction.
