Knightsbridge

Neighbourhood partly in the City of Westminster borough and partly in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, in London, England. Located south of Hyde Park and northwest of Belgravia, in London's West End, it is the site of stately houses and clubs, and is famous for its two prestigious department stores, Harrods and Harvey Nichols.

Knightsbridge is one of London's most sophisticated areas, known for its many designer clothes shops, top boutiques, antique dealers, jewellery shops, museums, and auction houses. It was a village in the Middle Ages and was recorded as Cnihtebricge (‘bridge of the young men’) in the mid-11th century. From the 17th century the area was known for its taverns, including the Swan, the World's End, and the Fox and Bull. Attractions include the Royal Albert Hall, one of the UK's most important concert halls and major landmarks; the Albert Memorial (built 1867–71); Kensington Gardens; Kensington Palace, redesigned by architect Christopher Wren in 1689; Ennsimore Gardens, a Victorian-style garden square; and the London Oratory of St Phillip Neri, a 19th-century, baroque Roman Catholic church.
