Knokke-Heist

Knokke-Heist

Fashionable resort town on the coast of West Flanders, Belgium, 16 km/10 mi north of Bruges; population (1997) 32,700. The fishing village of Knokke merged with the residential suburb of Het Zoute in 1880 and, as the town developed, other villages were absorbed. It has a casino and one of the largest golf courses in Europe.

Albert-Strand (Albert-Plage) and Het Zoute (Le Zoute), are popular seaside resorts.

Five years ago an Irish under-19 side featuring Willo Flood, Joey O'Brien and Alan O'Brien met the Belgians in similar circumstances in Knokke-Heist and were unlucky to lose out to an 86th minute home winner.
The 36-year-old Katusha rider underwent surgery on Thursday after suffering a heavy fall on the second stage of the Tour of Belgium in Knokke-Heist.
It will be officially launched in Amsterdam on May 4 and will hit the cities of Split, Athens, Poznan, Zurich, Sydney, Taipei, Knokke-Heist and Hamburg before landing in Bahrain.
