Knopf, Adolph (1882-1966)

US geologist. He made major contributions to mineralogy and mining, radioisotopic geochronology, and igneous petrology as exemplified by investigations of the Boulder batholith in Montana. He worked with the US Geological Survey (1906-45) while concurrently teaching at Yale University (1920-51). He then became a visiting professor at Stanford University (1951-57). Knopf was born in San Francisco, California.
