Knox-Johnston, Robin (William Robert Patrick) (1939- )

English yachtsman. In 1969, in the Suhaili, he became the first person to sail nonstop, singlehanded around the world. The holder of the 1986 British Sailing Trans Atlantic Record, he has also won the Round Britain Race in both the two-man and crewed sections. Co-skipper with Peter Blake on the Enza NZ, he achieved the world's fastest circumnavigation under sail in 1994. He was knighted in 1995.

Of his records, his solo circumnavigation in the Suhaili lasted 312 days, from 14 June 1968 to 22 April 1969; his 1986 trans Atlantic sailing took 10 days, 14 hours, and 9 minutes; and his 1994 fastest circumnavigation clocked in at 74 days, 22 hours, 17 minutes, and 22 seconds. He has also written over 13 books.
