Swedish composer. His compositions are chiefly instrumental and based on folk music.

He studied at the Stockholm Conservatory and later in London, Paris, and Dresden.

Orchestral

four symphonies (1938–53), symphonic poem A Tale from the Wilderness, Symphonic Episode, Symphonic Dance; three piano concertos (1936–72), violin concerto.

Chamber

suite for chamber orchestra; six string quartets (1934–63), string trio; violin and piano sonata.

Other

piano works; songs.
