Koenig, Marie-Pierre Joseph Francis (1898-1970)

French general. He fought in Norway and France 1940 then escaped to the UK to join de Gaulle. He commanded the French Brigade in the Libyan desert, defending Bir Hachiem before being evicted by Rommel 1942. He later served on Eisenhower's staff to coordinate the French resistance with the invasion 1944 and after 6 June took command of the French Forces of the Interior. After the surrender of Paris he became military governor of the city and commanded the French forces of occupation in Germany 1945-49.
