Kokomo

City in north-central Indiana, on Wildcat Creek, 48 mi/78 km north of Indianapolis and 68 mi/109 km southwest of Fort Wayne; seat of Howard County; population (2000) 46,100. It is situated in a rich agricultural region; industries include the manufacture of car, radio, and plumbing parts, aluminum castings, metal alloys, steel and wire, and electrical machinery.

The city is the site of Indiana University at Kokomo (1945).
