Kolín

River port in central Bohemia, in the Czech Republic, on the Elbe, 25 km/16 mi east of Prague; population (1991) 31,600. It is a railway junction; industries include chemicals, petroleum refining, and engineering. During the Seven Years' War, the Austrians defeated the Prussians at Kolín 1757, forcing them out of Bohemia.

An annual brass-band festival held here is called Kmoch's Kolín Festival after a Bohemian brass-band conductor of the 19th century.
