Kondo, Nobutaki (1856-1953)

Japanese admiral of World War II. Kondo was the commander of the Southern Sea Force which sank the British battleships Prince of Wales and Repulse off the coast of Malaya 10 December 1941. He took part in the Battle of Midway 1942, though he withdrew without engaging the US fleet, and was also involved in the naval battles off Guadalcanal and in the Battle of the Eastern Solomons.
