KongoAfrican kingdom flourishing in the lower Congo region in the 14th–18th centuries. Although it possessed a sophisticated system of government, its power began to decline early in the 17th century under the impact of intensified slave trading and the interventions of Portuguese merchants and missionaries. In the late 19th century the kingdom was incorporated in the Portuguese colony of Angola. The Kongo people rebelled against colonial rule 1913–17. How to thank TFD for its existence?
