Koninck, Philips

    0.01 sec.

Koninck, Philips (1619-1688)

Dutch painter. One of the greatest Dutch landscape painters, he created panoramic views of the Dutch lowlands in which much of the picture is taken up with sky. His brother Jacob Koninck (1616-1708) was also a landscape painter.

Philips Koninck was born in Amsterdam and may have been a pupil of Rembrandt. He was certainly influenced by Rembrandt (with whose landscape drawings his own have been confused) and also by Hercules Seghers; his finest landscapes are equal to theirs.
