Kontarsky, Aloys (1931- )

German pianist. He studied at Cologne and Hamburg and formed a piano duo with his brother Alfons (1932-) in 1955. Together they gave many performances of modern works, including the first performances of duos by Berio, Bussotti, Kagel and Bernd Zimmermann. In 1966 Aloys gave the first performance of Stockhausen's Klavierstücke I-XI. Since 1960 he has taught at Darmstadt.
