Konya, Sandor (1923- )

Hungarian tenor. He made his debut in Bielefeld in 1951 as Turiddu. From 1955 onwards he performed at the Stadttheater, Berlin, creating the role of Leandro in Henze's König Hirsch in 1956. He appeared at Bayreuth from 1958, as Lohengrin and Walther; in San Francisco 1960-65; at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York 1961-74, as Lohengrin, Radames, Calaf, Pinkerton, Walther, and Cavaradossi; and at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London from 1963. His other roles included Rodolfo, Max, and Parsifal.
