Koopman, Ton (1944– )

Dutch harpsichordist, organist, and conductor. He has conducted Musica Antiqua and formed the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra in 1977, and has made annual tours to Europe, Japan, and the USA.

Koopman studied in Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt. Notable performances include a concert at Westminster Abbey, London, in 1989 to celebrate the tercentenary of William and Mary of Orange; also Purcell's King Arthur at the Concertgebouw, Amsterdam. Recordings include complete the harpsichord works of Jan Sweelinck and the Bach orchestral suites.
