Kopeisk

Town in the Chelyabinsk oblast (region) of the western Russian Federation, 18 km/11 mi southeast of Chelyabinsk; population (2001 est) 73,000. It is a major centre for mining lignite (brown coal), and has an engineering industry specializing in road-building and mining equipment.

Kopeisk was founded in 1920 as a mining settlement, and has been a town since 1933.
