Korff, Serge A(lexander) (1906-1989)

Finnish-born US astrophysicist. He performed research at Mt Wilson Observatory (1931-33) and the California Institute of Technology (1933-35), then joined New York University (1941-74). He was a pioneer in the investigation of cosmic radiation, and made worldwide expeditions using observatories, balloons, and aircraft during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s. Korff was born in Helsinki, Finland. He fled the Bolsheviks with his professor father and arrived in the USA in 1918.
