Korn, Peter

Korn, Peter (Jona) (1920– )

German-born US composer and conductor. After studies with Edmund Rubbra in London, England, he moved to the USA in 1941, continuing his studies with Ernst Toch and Arnold Schoenberg. He founded the Los Angeles New Orchestra in 1948 and was its conductor until 1956. In 1967 he was appointed director of the Strauss Conservatory in Munich, Germany.

three symphonies (1946, 1952, 1956), violin concerto (1965), Beckmesser variations for orchestra (1977), trumpet concerto (1979).

two string quartets (1950, 1963), wind quintet (1964), piano trio (1975), octet (1976), duo for viola and piano (1978).
