Korty, John (1936- )

US film director. In the mid-1960s he was writing, directing, and producing low-budget movies such as Crazy Quilt (1966). The documentary Who Are the De Bolts? . . . And Where Did They Get 19 Kids? (1977) earned him an Academy Award. He also made several television films. Korty was born in Lafayette, Indiana. By the age of 16 he was making amateur films, and in college he made animated television commercials.
