Kosovo, Battles of

    0.02 sec.

Kosovo, Battles of

Turkish victories over the combined forces of Serbia, Bosnia, and Albania in 1389 and 50 years later over a combined Hungarian and Wallachian army in 1448. The Plain of Kosovo forms part of Serbia and has always been a focal point for any operations in the region.

The Serbian ruler was killed during the battle of 1389 and the Serbian Empire came under Turkish rule thereafter. The Serbians had their revenge during the Balkan War of 1912 when they soundly defeated the Turks in several small engagements in this area, and in 1915 it was the scene of the last stand of the Serbian Army before being driven from the country.
