Kota

Town of Rajasthan state, northwest India; (2001 est) 799,900. Lying on the east bank of the Chambal River, it is a growing industrial area which benefits from the nearby nuclear power plant and hydroelectric power from the Chambal Dam. Industries include chemical processing, a distillery, and the manufacture of cotton textiles and paper. The town dates from the 14th century.
